Avoid Migraines with These Tips

Migraine sufferers know that this time of year can be hazardous. The stress of going back to school, the end of vacation season, and the holidays approaching makes it more likely that a migraine can creep up with all the stress. Migraines can range anywhere from a severe headache to debilitating pain and light sensitivity.

At Austin Active Life, we offer several treatments for migraines and severe headaches, including massage therapy and the Graston technique. But if you find that you’re in between visits to our office and you feel a migraine coming on, here are some self-care tips you can follow to minimize migraine pain.

  • Watch what you eat. Processed foods with nitrates–commonly found in lunch meat and cheeses–have been proven to both cause and exacerbate migraine pain. Try cutting these foods out of your diet.
  • Reduce your stress level. Taking some time off for a day at the spa, a yoga class, or even a shopping trip can help to keep stress manageable and keep migraines at bay.
  • Visit your chiropractor regularly. Regular chiropractic adjustments are critical to keeping your body healthy.
